Summer House Art Gallery
In the magnificent country side of North Yorkshire
This is our story
Nestled between the historic Fountains Abbey and the sweeping Yorkshire Dales, Summer House Art Gallery opened in 2024 with a vision to bring powerful, personal art into a setting full of countryside charm. Founded by husband-and-wife artists Hamish and Brenda Herd, this intimate yet formidable space hosts their own evocative work alongside art by Arthur Gray, Emily Turner, and their daughter Bethlyn Herd, with more local creators soon to be featured. Every piece displayed here is more than pigment on canvas… it is a story, carefully crafted to speak to the soul.

When Hope Shone Down
by Hamish Herd
“When Hope Shone Down” captures the breathtaking moment when a storm breaks open to reveal a burst of celestial light. Dark, swirling clouds gather with dramatic force, yet through the heart of the sky pours a radiant beam that spills across the rolling fields below. The land glows in rich greens and golds, transformed by the touch of light. This piece speaks of endurance, renewal, and the quiet miracle of hope arriving exactly when it’s needed.
